Prof Yashpal Singh Malik is serving as Dean - College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU). Earlier he served as ICAR-National Fellow at the premier Veterinary Institute of the country- Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar India. Prof Malik served as Assistant Professor/Scientist (June 2001- August 2008), Associate Professor/Senior Scientist (May 2008-September 2008) in College of Veterinary Sciences, JN Krishi Vishwa Vidayalaya, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and later served at IVRI as Senior Scientist (September 2008-May 2014) and Principal Scientist (May 2014-November 2014) and presently occupying the esteemed position of ICAR-National Fellow (25th November 2014). Dr Malik has rich experience in veterinary and animal sciences with specialization in Microbiology and Biotechnology. His major research achievements include contributions in viral disease epidemiology, virus-host interactions, microbial biodiversity, characterization and diagnosis of animal pathogens. Currently, he is working on development of new generation immunodiagnostics using synthetic and recombinant DNA technology.

Prof Malik obtained his BVSc. & A.H in 1995; M.V.Sc. in 1997 and PhD (2000) in Veterinary Microbiology from College of Veterinary Sciences, CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Haryana.

Prof Malik did his postdoctoral research in Molecular Virology at University of Minnesota, Saint Paul, USA (2001-2002). He acquired advanced training in Molecular Virology from University of Minnesota, Saint Paul, USA (2005), Division of Virology, Ontario Research Institute, University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (2013), and Wuhan Institute of Virology, China (2019). Prof Malik has been to The United States of America, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Belarus, Belgium, and People’s Republic of China for representing India in scientific arena.

Prof Malik is recipient of several prestigious National, State and Academy level awards/honours including the ICAR Jawaharlal Nehru Award (2001);Young Scientist Awards of Association of Microbiologists of India (2000), Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology (2010). Noted scientific and professional societies of international and national repute as well as well reckoned national academies including NAAS and NAVS have bestowed Dr Malik with several honors in the form of distinguished Associateships/ Membership viz., Associateship of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (2010), Membership-National Academy of Veterinary Sciences (2010); CSIR Senior Research Fellowship (1997-2000), ICAR Junior Research Fellowship (1995-1997); Academic Merit Scholarship in B.V.Sc. &A.H. (1990-1995). Prof Malik has been endowed with Fellowships of Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists (IAVPHS-2018), National Academy of Biological Sciences (NABS-2017), Indian Society for Veterinary Biotechnology and Immunology (ISVIB-2017), International Science Congress Association (FISCA-2015), Fellow Academy for Environment and Life Sciences (FAELS-2015), Fellow Society of Applied Biotechnology (FSAB-2015) and Fellow Indian Virology Society (FIVS-2014).

Prof Malik is member of International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) on Birnaviridae and Picobirnaviridae study group and a managing committee member of World Society for Virology (USA). He is the Secretary-E for World Society for Virology (USA).

Prof Malik, developed several technologies and diagnostic kits and also has two National patents to his credit. He has authored 5 books of reputed publishers including ICAR, Elsevier and Springer Nature, and has contributed 27 book chapters. He has published around 218 scientific research articles, Popular/Technical Articles/ Reviews in peer reviewed National/ International journals of high impact factor. His h index is 29 and RG score 39. Prof Malik has supervised 5 Ph.D. and 18 Master’s degree students for their thesis research. He has been reviewer for many reckoned Indian and International Journals like Journal of Virological Methods, Vet. Microbiology, Archives of Virology, Infection, Genetics and Evolution, Preventive Veterinary Medicine, Virus Disease, Indian Journal of Microbiology, Indian Journal of Animal Science, etc. Prof Malik has been the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Immunology Immunopathology and has edited special issues of Springer’s journal Virus Disease on “Enteric Viral infections in Humans and Animals”, Bentham’s journal, The Open Virology Journal, special issue on “Emerging and Zoonotic Virus Challenges of Developing Nations”, “Therapeutic Advances and their Biomedical Perspectives” a special issue for Journal of Current Drug Metabolism, and “Biomedical Perspectives of Advances in Disease Diagnosis and Therapeutics (BPADDT)” a special issue edited for Journal of Experimental Biology and Agricultural Sciences. Prof Malik is on advisory board of several professional academic societies including Indian Virological Society where he is serving as “Secretary General”, in the Indian Society of Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology he is serving as “Joint Secretary” and in Indian Association of Veterinary Microbiologists, Immunologists and Specialists of Infectious Diseases he is working as “Joint Secretary and Treasurer”. Prof Malik has special interest in enteric viral infections of animals and humans, zoonosis and emerging viral diseases. Prof Malik’s contribution through his efforts not only through R&D but also by way of development of quality human resource.
